Basil Schlegel

Starting in the middle of change and finding exactly the right place.

Hi, I'm Basil Schlegel

I joined Sekisui Alveo in August 2020.
Right in the middle of the COVID period. After an eight-month break. Back in Switzerland.

My start was shaped by working from home, video calls and a certain level of uncertainty, as was the case for many people during that time. And yet, from the very first moment I felt: this is the right place.

This is my working world

The role as Group Controller immediately appealed to me. An international industrial company, a wide range of responsibilities, fast decision making, and all of it close to where I live. Exactly what I had been looking for.

What really defined my time here was a major project: the transition of our ERP system from SAP R/3 to S/4HANA, including the introduction of a new MES and a new document management system.

I was deeply involved from the very beginning. From master data migration, all the way to reporting. Technically demanding, organisationally complex and personally intense. A period during which I learned a lot not only about systems, but above all about how important strong teamwork is when it really matters.

The ERP transition was intense, challenging and incredibly rewarding. Projects like this help you grow both professionally and personally.

What I particularly value about my role: I see myself as an internal service provider. I work with many different colleagues across the company. People come with questions, challenges or ideas and together we look for solutions.

Sometimes things move quickly. Sometimes they take years. Both are part of the process. And both are part of the journey.
Shortly after I started, I was already able to take on responsibility. A reporting tool was replaced and I led the project. This allowed me to connect early with many stakeholders and showed me how openly and respectfully the team collaborates here.

By the time our ERP system went live, one thing was clear: even in challenging situations, we can achieve a lot together.
Within the finance team we work closely together, support one another and exchange ideas openly. And yes — we laugh as well. Because despite all the responsibility, a good atmosphere matters to us.

What motivates me most today is simple: no two days are the same.
You never know exactly what the day will bring. Sometimes everything goes according to plan. Sometimes spontaneous solutions are needed. That is exactly what makes my job exciting and exactly why I enjoy coming to work every day.
